Day One: Mystic to Alexandria

"Oh my God, who farted?!"
"No, honey, that's just Newark."
And at that ripe moment — after four hours of steady rain, fog, and potholes — the clouds parted and the sun shined down for the first time on our Sunline Solaris cutting a not-so-sleek line on 95 South. (Which was fortunate considering the unlocked trailer window that was jarred open somewhere near the Tappan Zee, dousing our little home in fresh rain water. #lessonlearned)

At the end of the day, we hit 6 states — CT, NY, NJ, DE, MD and VA — and arrived in Alexandria just in time for wine and jambalaya, with a side of Nerf gun war. The kids obliterated us at "Beat the Parents," Emily and Jonathan serenaded us with Tracy Chapman, and Boo christened the basement floor not once but twice.

All in all, our longest and more grueling day of travel was not so bad after all. Though I could have done without the 💩💩💩
